Cactus Cafe
tel : 50 40 94 ; Armeneasca 41(intersection 31 August
street); mains $ 2 - 4; 11am - 10pm ; www.cactus.md |
| This is a true winner. The
eclectic interior decor (Wild West meets urban bohemian, but
with grace and humour) is matched by the city's most creative
menu. There are incredible breakfasts (a real rarity in these
parts), lots of vegetarian meals ( soy meat!), wild plates such
as turkey with bananas and the country's most killer gazpacho.
Even their web site's a gas. |

The atmosphere is always lively at
this relatively expensive but popular Celticcum-Moldovan Irish pub. The
bar section, which draws the biggest crowds, is truly cosy - that's
where they've really got it going on. Yet the pricey restaurant is a
temptation as well with tantalisingly named dishes such as Cock-a-leekie
(leek with duck, chicken, prunes and veggies stewed in Guiness). A pint
of the good stuff runs to about $3. |
