God forbid leaving the country o
these days. We try to plan no business trips, vacations or
visits. It is because the Wine Day is celebrated on the second
Sunday of October. Two years ago it coincided with the Day of
Chisinau - the 14th of October. But in the Day of Chisinau is
celebrated for just one day, wine celebrations last at least for
a week. It is in no circumstances because we don't want to work,
and instead drink. It is just that guests from 99 ( ! )
countries come to our country. This is how it was last year.
They are not able to get acquainted with Moldovan
wine branch's achievements for just one day. That is why the
festivities stretch out for a week. The major events take place
on October 11-12.
Winemakers Parade
Such a holiday
couldn't but appear in the winemaking Moldova. To put it more
precisely, it has always existed. Since they started growing
vine and making a good drink here, peasants having filled
barrels with a new harvest wine, celebrated this event. They
gave each other their wine trying to demonstrate that wine in
their cask is the best! A house was incomplete without wine in
its cellar.
In 2002, the
Moldovan president's order declared the second Sunday of October
to be the National Wine Day. The holiday came out of villages'
limits and occupied municipal areas attracting more and more
guests from abroad already for the fifth year. Our wine festival
is now compared with similar holidays famous all over the world.
But those who attended the Wine Day in Moldova at least once are
sure that there is nothing more outstanding out there.
The festivities start with the
winemakers parade. It is an unforgettable sight! Each enterprise
(there are tens of them in Moldova's winemaking branch) tries to
show itself in all its beauty. Trucks can't be seen because of
the Moldovan carpets and vine on them (I wonder how the
machinery manages to move). Many participants ride horse-drawn
carts. Small ensembles performing national music and dancers
ride in bodies and carts. Right before your eyes they squeeze
out wine from grapes to a barrel using an old-fashioned press
instead of a factory one. All of them |
